Before I became a freelance WordPress and Software Developer in San Diego, I held a variety of software development positions. Here is a summary of my career:
I attended the State University of NY at Potsdam with a Computer Science major. After college I started working for Wang Laboratories as a hardware technician. I was the District Technical Specialist, responsible for all hardware and software escalations for upstate NY.
I worked for the Rochester Products division of General Motors as a network hardware technician and was promoted to systems programmer. Electronic Data Systems (EDS) assumed responsibilities for most of GM’s IT requirements. I transitioned over to EDS and advanced rapidly, I was personally commended by Ross Peroit, the founder of EDS. I received a network design position in the Charlotte Information Processing Center, “IPC”. I was the Charlotte representative for the global network steering committee.
General Motors formed a joint venture with Volvo Trucks called “Volvo GM Heavy Truck Corporation”. I was responsible for the network design and implementation of the connectivity between Volvo and GM. The new corporation was headquartered in Greensboro, NC. I transferred to the new facility as the supervisor of data communications. This was a hands-on position, I was involved in every step of each project from design to implementation. When the Internet became viable for commercial applications, I designed, programmed and managed the project to automate the antiquated Volvo GM dealer communication network software. I was promoted to manager of systems development for this accomplishment and included management of the DBA group. The DBA group supported Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, IMS, and VSAM.
I wrote a book about my design strategies and concepts for the Volvo dealer network project. Here is an excerpt of the back cover.

In the year 2000, my diverse background in both hardware and software uniquely qualified me as a Y2K consultant. I took a position with a startup company called N-Tier Solutions in Winston Salem, NC. I have software expertise from Mainframes to hand-held devices and everything in between. This allowed me to review any system for Y2K abnormalities.
In 2001, I formed a co-op called “La Visa” (Italian for “The View”). The co-op builds software tools that enabled customers to manage their own home construction project. By automating the contractor function, the homeowner could save as much as 50% of the cost of the project. The on-line software performs all of the tasks a general contractor would perform. The package included drawing tools, sub-contractor referrals, permits, financing and project tracking. The homeowner will have a package that provides the price, time-frame, project management and specifications. The software was developed with Java Servlets and the Google Web Toolkit (GWT). During this time-frame, I have worked as a free lance contractor for various projects with several different companies.
